The following Harvard Square intervention pursues the creation of inhabitable space through the extraction of the surrounding architectural apertures via the technique of replication, scaling and extrusion. Analysis of the fenestration from adjacent buildings provided the matter used to form the base of the structure. The decision to use a stack of 5 extractions yet only 4 floors resulted in architectural slippages throughout, allowing for exploration in positive and negative spaces for apertures and balconies on the facade. On the interior, these slippages in the massing provide spatial separations for a bar, cafe, bowling alley, shops and study spaces for the Study Hotel.
