Networked Open Space

The re-imagination of the Harvard yard site expands the existing Lamont Cafe and pushes down into the underground Pusey Library, creating a connected experience to attract students to the area and the libraries. Arising from a grid system, the geometry takes on a variety of functions at different scales, such as stairs, pavers, benches, rooms and falls like quicksand towards the courtyard, filling up the space to offer an area for students to sit, relax, and work. The continuation of elevation changes fuse the subgrade into the Cafe and rise above to a new second-floor outdoor space.
