As a physical index of time, this totem is shaped through the erosion from human movement and natural elements, a subtractive process that creates soft edges and curves. Starting from a system of fabricated units on day one, the totem anticipates erosion on both the inside and the outside through the use of two materials - one that is erodible and one that cannot be so easily reduced. With human movement and natural elements, the erodible sand-like material wears away to reveal apertures and activate new spaces and functions. Erosion as a force that typically degrades buildings has here unlocked the totem's full dynamic capacity.
